The Australian Computer Society (ACS) created the IT professional year program to assist international ICT (Information and Communications Technology) graduates in gaining practical skills and foundational training. The provision of frequent counseling throughout the curriculum is also critical in assisting students in acquiring vast and practical knowledge.
The initiative, launched by the Department of Home Affairs, aims to address Australia’s skills shortfall. The curriculum lasts 44 weeks, with the first 32 weeks dedicated to theoretical knowledge and communication skills training, and the last 12 weeks dedicated to putting acquired information and taught strategies into practice through an internship.
Students who successfully complete the program are also entitled to 5 additional points on the Department of Home Affairs points exam, which increases their chances of obtaining permanent residency in Australia.
