There are overwhelming opportunities for anyone who wants to live in Australia. The one in question today is the Australian Partner Visa known by two names Subclass 820 and 801, depending on which stream you apply to.
Unlike other visas, which have streams from which you can choose to apply in whichever stream you wish, the Australian Partner Visa consists of two visas itself. As an applicant, you apply for both visas together, and the conditions are also connected.
Temporary and Permanent
When we’re talking about the Australian Partner Visa, we’re referring to two visas: Temporary or Subclass 820, and Permanent or Subclass 801.
Subclass 820 – Temporary Partner Visa
If you’re the de facto partner of or married to an Australian citizen, a permanent Australian resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen, you can apply for this visa. It grants you the chance to stay in Australia temporarily.
Conditions:
Attaining this is the first step in acquiring a Permanent partner visa. You must be present in Australia when you apply for this visa.
Cost:
Starts at AUD 7,850. For Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300) holders, the price starts from AUD 1,310 You pay a combined fee for both temporary and permanent visas
Processing Times:
Can take 6 months for 25% of applicants. Can take 10 months for half of the number of applicants. Can take up to 33 months for 90% of applicants.
Subclass 801 – Permanent Partner Visa
You can apply for this Visa given that you fulfill two conditions: you’re a spouse or de facto partner of an Australian resident, a citizen, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. Additionally, you’re also the holder of Subclass 820 or a Temporary Partner Visa.
Conditions:
You must hold a Temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 820)
Cost:
There is no additional fee for this Visa. You paid for it when you first applied for the Temporary Partner Visa.
Processing Time:
For one-quarter of applicants, it can take up to 65 days. For half of the applicants, the time is 6 months. For 90% of applicants, it can take up to 20 months.
