This visa allows eligible employers to temporarily sponsor skilled overseas workers to fill positions they cannot find qualified candidates for within Australia. The 482 Visa offers three streams:
Visa 482 – Short-Term Stream
- This stream permits employers to sponsor skilled workers for roles listed on the Short-Term
Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). Workers can live and work in Australia for up to 2 years, or
up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.
Processing Time
Processing times for the 482 Short-Term Visa vary, with:
● 25% of applications processed within 36 days
● 50% within 53 days
● 75% within 5 months
● 90% within 14 months
Eligibility
To qualify for the Short-Term Stream, applicants must:
-> Have a job offer in an occupation listed on the STSOL- -> Have at least 2 years of experience in the nominated occupation
- -> Provide a positive skills assessment, if required
- -> Work for their sponsor or affiliated organization
- -> Meet health, character, and English proficiency requirements
- -> Be a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE)
- -> Have no outstanding debt to the Australian government
Cost
The visa costs AUD 1,290 for main applicants and dependents aged 18 or over, and AUD 325 for dependents under 18. Additional costs may apply for biometrics, English tests, and medical exams.

Visa 482 – Medium-Term Stream

Processing Time
Processing times are as follows:
- -> 25% of applications processed in 33 days
- -> 50% within 49 days
- -> 75% within 3 months
- -> 90% within 7 months
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Medium-Term Stream, applicants must:
- -> Have a job offer in an occupation on the MLTSSL or ROL
- -> Have at least 2 years of experience in their occupation
- -> Provide a positive skills assessment, if required
- -> Work for their sponsor or affiliate
- -> Meet English proficiency, health, and character requirements
Cost
Visa application fees are AUD 2,690 for the primary applicant and dependents aged 18 or over, and AUD 675 for dependents under 18. Additional costs may apply for health checks, biometrics, and other assessments.

- -> 25% of applications processed within 36 days
- -> 50% within 46 days
- -> 75% within 71 days
- -> 90% within 6 months
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- -> Be employed under a Labour Agreement
- -> Have at least 2 years of experience in their occupation
- -> Provide a skills assessment, if required
- -> Work exclusively for their sponsor
- -> Meet English proficiency, health, and character requirements
- -> Hold adequate health insurance
